The NFL Pro Bowl is now a flag football game

This has to be a joke

Making the Pro Bowl used to mean something. It was special and meant you were one of the best in the game. Players were honored to be chosen to play in the game. Now it has evolved into a joke.

Actually, it has been making a slow descent for a while, but at least it has stayed a man’s game. Flag football is what eight-year-olds play to learn the game. Now we’re going to have grown professional men, making millions of dollars a year, chasing each other around, trying to grab a flag. What a joke!

The Pro Bowl has been going downhill for years. Many players have been deciding not to participate, so alternates get the “honor” of playing in the game instead. It’s great as a fan to see the eighth and ninth-best quarterback in the league playing in the game that is supposed to be the best. But at least it was real football.

Dick Butkus is turning over in his grave, and he’s not even dead yet. That’s how big of a disgrace this is. He might literally be digging a hole in the ground so he can lie in it.

All kidding aside, I would love to know the perspective of some of the old-school players that made the NFL such a great game to watch. Maybe they aren’t as frustrated as I am. Perhaps I’m overthinking this, but I know that I won’t be watching the Pro Bowl this year. I bet there are many people just like me. It will probably be the least-watched Pro Bowl in history.

Hopefully, Major League Baseball doesn’t follow the NFL’s lead. I want to avoid watching the All-Star Game as a Tee Ball game.
